Epilepsy is a disorder in which the nerve cells in the brain become disturbed, leading to seizures. Epilepsy is treatable, but not curable, with more than 200,000 cases in the United States per year. The condition is caused by a genetic disorder or trauma to the brain. It's usually treated with medications and in some cases surgery. There are, however, alternative treatments which may help epilepsy patients to better cope with the condition.

Herbal Treatments and Vitamins

Herbs have long been used by mankind for thousands of years to treat all kinds of ailments and diseases. While some herbs can make seizures worse, others, like valerian and mistletoe, actually seem to make seizures less common or severe. There is no medical proof of herbs helping reduce the severity of seizures, but some patients beg to differ, claiming herbs have helped.

Dietary Changes

Certain changes in your diet can also help decrease seizures. The most recommended diet is called the cryogenic diet. It consists of a higher ratio of fats, low carbs, and low protein diet. This diet is salt to help decrease seizures but doctors don't know why or how. Recent conducted studies have shown cbd vape juice can help treat in epilepsy.

Self Control

Some people with epilepsy believe they can control their brain activities to reduce seizures. It is believed that if you learn the symptoms of an impending seizure, you may be able to prevent it. Some self-control methods include meditation, walking, sniffing strong odors, or simply telling the seizure "no". This method has no scientific evidence to back it up but it seems to offer comfort to some people.

Epilepsy is a very hard disorder to deal with. It is not curable but it is treatable. Some people choose alternative treatments to their medications. Some of these treatments may just bring peace of mind or comfort to those who suffer from epilepsy, but as always check with your daughter before participating in any of these treatments.
